Petition for open source API's, a Dev share program, and direct App to hardware communication

+1 Yes! I love how this post is the first thing I see on the community page.

Big thanks to OP and all the commenters for the effort to articulate this request and show support.

They don’t even have Google Assistant integration.

When I emailed them about it they gave me an incredibly rude answer, claiming that their terrible, choppy and delayed Chromecast stream counts as the promised integration and that I was clearly wrong so instead of responding I canceled my subscription and trashed the cameras. I didn’t want to bother with replacing my doorbell yet and since I don’t need a subscription for that, I’ll be replacing that once we move.

Thx! I was contemplating sinking $1k on cameras over and above my current doorbell. Based on this post, I won’t.

support this! Especially since eufy engineers are incompetent to fix issues like the random resetting for timing of mechanical doorbell chime causing it to buzz. Maybe open source can help the community fix the real issues these devices have.

That would be great!

This would allow me to dump all other cameras I have and focus solely on eufy cameras. But I don’t see this happening as ALL the camera makers do everything with “cloud first”-thinking and they want us to buy into their cloud subscriptions.

Agreed. I do regret buying this brand to be honest. I fully expected it to be more open. I want to be able to grab images myself, do fun stuff like detecting if there are keys left in the door, etc. I would go so far to buy another brand if it would offer an API. Doesn’t have to be anything fancy…just HTTP and a way to stream the video.

Perhaps, you are on to ssomething here–I mean, the observational accuracy of your notwithstanding. Now, who on YouTube can we reach out to for his/her consideration in this matter??

The YouTuber must have significant enough viewership and a very loyal following amongst those in the DIY smart home security & IoT integration community AND who are reliant upon trustworthy eviewers for blunt, accurate & informative product reviews.

I suppose including the links to such relevant reviews within individual community support threads, as well as all direct, official communication with Eufy technical support, WOULD be significantly more effective at getting our longstanding issues noticed & resolved!?!

Eufy is the fastest responding time when someone ring my door bell. Better than Ring. Love everything about Eufy. Love it more if it integrate the Google Smart Home, Alexa, Homekit…

I fully agree with this request for an open API. It is exactly what is mentioned in the post. I will not extend my setup with Eufy devices because of the way the software is supported. Geofencing and integration with schedules is never solved unless two years of promisses. I also cannot make an connection with my Openhab setup. Therefore i have to rely on what the community tries to produce but they are also limited by Eufy. Eufy could learn a lot from companies like Apple and Garmin fir example. Your product does not only consist from hardware but also from software. The hardware can be perfect but limited software makes the hardware useless.

100% agree. I picked Eufy initially be uase I didn’t want vendor lock in. Now I see Eufy heading that direction and it makes me want to just DIY a new solution myself.

No vendor lock in Eufy. If I wanted that, I would go with your competitors far superior offerings.
